Have you ever wondered how the Chicago Bulls got their name? To find out, let’s take a look at what the Chicago Bulls Encyclopedia says about it. (Yes, this a real book written by Alex Sachare.)
The story goes like this: team owner Richard Klein was trying to come up with ideas to name his brand spanking new team back in 1966. He wanted a name with roots in Chicago’s history so he toyed with names such as The Matadors and The Toreadors (Chicago being the meat capital of the world at the time). At some point while he is trying out these names, his young son declared, “Dad, that’s a bunch of bull!” and it was his eureka moment.
The light bulb came on over his head and the rest, as they say, is history.
