American athlete Carli Lloyd, a 2 time FIFA World Player of the year, is headed across the pond. It is a short term contract that enables her to return to play with her home team here in the States, the Houston Dash. While she voiced concern about disappointing her fans, there is no denying the opportunity to participate in the Champion League.
Quarterfinals for the Champion League take place in March giving Lloyd the opportunity of a lifetime. The Champion League is an international football club that will allow Lloyd the chance to play against some of the worlds top players. That’s an opportunity not to be missed as she has mentioned that the upcoming Olympics in 2020 will be the beginning of the end of her professional soccer career.
Carli Lloyds (hopefully) short lived exodus seems to be part of a bigger trend in Woman’s soccer. There have been complaints about the treatment they are getting here from the NWSL and players are ready to see if the grass really is greener on the other side. Lloyd follows other female American soccer greats such as Alex Morgan, Heather O’Reilly and Crystal Dunn. All eyes will be on her as she makes her temporary move. We wish her the best of luck!
